Epoxydized Soybean Oil

Things to know about epoxydized soybean oil

The modification / epoxy enhancing of vegetable oils such as e.g. soya oil, is a well-known and common technical process. In this, the double bonds (the unsaturated portions) of the fatty acids are transferred into an epoxy group by means of peroxides or peroxy acids. These so-called epoxies are a chemical substance group of very reactive, heterocyclic organic compounds (three rings with an oxygen atom). Epoxy-enhanced oils of this kind are mostly used as plasticisers in PVC, but are also used more and more in applications for other plastics.
